Mercurius
a site with a past
It was no coincidence that the Mercury project was named after the Roman god of trade. During the archaeological excavations his statue was found as well as the remains of three temples that were once on this site.
Description
When Van Wellen Group bought this site from Mc Cain in 2017, there was still a factory for frozen products on the site at that time. The first phase in the redevelopment was the demolition and remediation of the company sites.
At that time, the municipal council was convinced that an economic development in the village center with the associated traffic flows was no longer appropriate and concluded an agreement with Van Wellen Group to turn the site into a residential zone of the future.
With key concepts such as a lively community, socially inviting green and sustainable environment, including housing, integration of disadvantaged groups and affordable housing, the engineering offices and architects started an ambitious project that pays attention to the accessibility of public space - fordability, public experience nature, use of renewable resources and raw materials, an energy-neutral or energy-positive residential area through innovative design measures.
The RUP procedure is currently ongoing at the initiative of the municipality and they proposed an integrated housing project in the public consultation.
